生田ひまわり幼稚園

元気・勇気・根気を育む遊環構造園舎

川崎市多摩区の丘陵地の住宅街に立地する歴史ある幼稚園の、認定こども園化に伴う建替計画である。設計にあたり、園の教育方針であ
る元気・勇気・根気を育み、こどもたちの活動を促進させるような、回遊性と多様性を重視した「遊環構造」のある環境を目指した。
園舎は敷地にレベル差のある木造の保育棟（１・２歳児）とRC造の幼稚園棟（３～５歳児）の２棟からなるが、それぞれを内部の渡り廊下と外部バルコニーでつなぎ、園全体として回遊できる計画としている。敷地北西側の保育棟は木造２階建ての小規模な園舎である。住宅のような空間と木のぬくもりに包まれて、小さなこどもたちが落ち着いて過ごせる環境を形成している。乳児園庭に面した木のデッキは、こどもたちの成長にあわせて活動を広げられる空間装置となっている。南側の幼児園庭を囲むように建つRC造の幼稚園棟は、地下１階にネット遊具のある遊戯室、１・２階に園庭に面して並ぶ保育室、屋内プール、アトリエスペース等で構成された、地下１階・地上２階建ての園舎である。バルコニーや廊下、遊戯室の屋根を兼ねたデッキの大階段、２階のアトリエスペースから地下の遊戯室まで下りられるネット遊具等によって、こどもたちは立体的にあそびまわることができ、あそびや活動の可能性・多様性をひろげている。園庭に面した大きな階段状の木製デッキ“だんだんテラス”は、本園において１階園庭と２階を結ぶ立体的なこどもの居場所として計画した。
展望機能や隠れる機能もあり、こどもたちのあそびの舞台となっている。幼稚園棟の各保育室の間仕切り壁の中央には連続して窓を設けることで、園舎内の見通しや風通しを向上させ、その手前に設置したロッカーを兼ねたロフト遊具“まどテラス”にて、園児は隣の保育室と行き来してあそぶことも可能となる。園児も職員もコミュニケーションが取りやすく、お互いに見守りあえるユニークな仕掛けとなっている。

A playground structure that fosters energy, courage, and perseverance

This is a project to reconstruct a historic kindergarten located in a hilly residential area in Tama-ku, Kawasaki City, in conjunction with the conversion to a certified childcare center.In designing this project, we aimed to create an environment with a "play ring structure" that emphasizes circulation and diversity to foster the children's activities and nurture their energy, courage, and perseverance, which is the educational policy of the kindergarten.The school consists of a wooden nursery school building (for children aged 1 and 2) and a RC kindergarten building (for children aged 3 to 5), both of which are located at different levels on the site, and each is connected by an interior corridor and exterior balcony, allowing the children to move around the school as a whole.The nursery building on the northwest side of the site is a small, two-story wooden building.The residential-like space and the warmth of the wood create a calm and comfortable environment for the small children.The wooden deck facing the infant garden is a spatial device that allows children to expand their activities as they grow.The RC kindergarten building, which surrounds the infant yard on the south side, is a two-story building with one basement level, consisting of a playroom with net play equipment on the basement level, nursery rooms facing the yard on the first and second floors, an indoor swimming pool, studio space, and other facilities.The balcony, corridors, a large staircase with a deck that also serves as the roof of the playroom, and a net playground equipment that can be accessed from the atelier space on the second floor to the playroom in the basement allow children to play around in a three-dimensional space, expanding the possibilities and diversity of their play and activities.The "Dandan Terrace," a large stair-like wooden deck facing the school yard, was planned as a three-dimensional place for children to stay, connecting the first floor yard and the second floor.The terrace also serves as a stage for children's play, with a function of observation and hiding.In the center of the partition wall between each nursery room in the kindergarten building is a series of windows to improve visibility and ventilation within the building.The children can also play in the "Mado Terrace," a loft playground that doubles as a locker.This is a unique mechanism that allows both children and staff to communicate easily and look out for each other.
